Outpatient Detoxification Q&A

What is outpatient detoxification?

Outpatient detoxification aims to help you wean off of addictive substances like alcohol and opioids. Rather than staying at an inpatient treatment facility, it lets you visit the office every few days or weeks to receive treatment so that you can maintain your work and personal responsibilities.

Outpatient detoxification is typically more affordable and easier to access than inpatient treatment. It provides similar services but without the burden of taking significant time off work.

Who should consider outpatient detoxification?

Consider outpatient detoxification at Victory Treatment Program if you’re struggling with a substance use disorder like:

  • Alcohol addiction
  • Opioid addiction
  • Marijuana use disorder
  • Nicotine addiction
  • Inhalant use disorder

People with substance use disorders often struggle with multiple substances. After a physical exam and comprehensive evaluation, Victory Treatment Program develops a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your needs.

What does outpatient detoxification involve?

At Victory Treatment Program, outpatient detoxification addresses your needs. It might include:

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT)

MAT uses Vivitrol, an injectable version of naltrexone, to reduce cravings associated with alcohol or opioid withdrawal. The medication blocks specific receptors in your brain responsible for the “high” associated with using these substances.

Vivitrol injections last for a month at a time. A team member administers the injections into your upper buttock and explains how to reduce side effects like nausea and insomnia.

Support groups

Maintaining sobriety on your own can be a daunting task. As a result, the team encourages all patients to participate in a monthly support group. These meetings provide insights into the recovery process and let you meet with others who are experiencing similar challenges.

Intravenous (IV) therapy

Substances like opioids and alcohol often take weeks or months to be fully eliminated from your body. As they start leaving your system, they can also present a range of side effects, including muscle aches, fatigue, and shaking.

IV therapy tries to relieve these symptoms with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. These substances restore your body to balance and make recovery easier.

What if I need detox assistance outside of normal business hours?

Detoxification is one of the most crucial phases of recovery. Stacey and the team understand and try to make the process as comfortable and easy as possible. To facilitate these efforts, Victory Treatment Program has a special after-hours phone line devoted to people undergoing outpatient detox. If you have safety or health concerns, call this number at any time to speak with a member of the staff.
